Introduction

On a meeting February 22, 1908 at Grand Hotel in Stockholm the SSF approved the 22-55 square metre classes from the Square Metre Rule submitted by KSSS. Thereby the Square Metre Yacht was officially approved as a national class, Sweden's first. 1.200 yachts have been built and most of them are still sailing today. New yachts are still designed and build. In 2008 there will be 7-8 new Square Metre Yachts launched. The Square Metre Rule is Sweden’s contribution to the world of sailing. The rule is unique because it is possible that 80 years old yachts are able sail races and compete on equal terms as new designs.

The Square Metre Rule is in 2008 celebrating it's 100 year anniversary with a Jubilee Regatta in Saltsjöbaden for all classes, between 15-150 square metre. KSSS - Royal Swedish Yacht Club - has during the last 100 year been active in the development of the Square Metre Yachts and is therefore the organizer of choice for the regatta.

Races

Races will be organized for all Square Metre classes, between 15-150 square metre.

A22s is sailing International Swedish Championships and Skärgårdskryssarepokalen. That is Sweden's oldest still used racing trophy which was first used in 1910 by the SK30 class, but since 1933 it's the A22s who are competing for the trophy. This year the 22s are competing for the 16th version of the trophy. It's the 14th time that KSSS has been organizer of the Skärgårdskryssarepokalen. Other Trophy's to compete for is Tage Plåts Minnespris, Tricksonpokalen, Ivar Brunelius Vandringspris och Debutantpokalen.

SK30 is sailing Europe Cup and International Swedish National Championships and attracts sailors from 10 nations. Europe Cup is staged alternately in Sweden and on the Bodensee every second year so it's located in Sweden every 4th year. The first time Europe Cup was staged in Sweden was 1980, and also this time organized by KSSS. The SK30s will compete for the Europe Cup trophy, Alice and Arvid Laurin pokalen and Jerker Nilson pokalen to the best older wooden yacht.

The Championship races will be staged at an upwind-downwind course at Baggensfjärden.

All other Square Metre classes between 15-150 square metre will sail on a course at Baggensfjärden with fixed marks and on a course in the archipelago.

Participating yachts

SSKF and KSSS hope for at least 100 participating yachts from 10 nations (USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Hungary, Finland, Denmark, Switzerland, Austria and Sweden). It will be celebrations with activities every evening. All yachts will be moored in Hotellviken and available for all people to enjoy.
