The local 22 sailors are working to create a nice evening.
About the harbour: Västervik is an old town, the history goes back to 1433 when the king Erik XIII ordered the town to move to its present location. Before it was situated at the inner end of the bay Gamlebyviken. It has always been an important coastal town with small industries, shipping and fishing being the most important branches. It is now a well known "summer town" with a big tourist sector.

Friday July 25, Västervik to Harstena/Fyrudden

Distance: 44 nautical miles
Todays activity: More or less sheltered waters in the Archipelago. Navigation in the channels and only in the very last part we will leave the channel to navigate only using the charts.

We will now anchor and stay for two days in a natural harbour like the Swedes do when they have holidays (touring). This means that we all have to sleep in the boats. For those who prefer to follow with caravans and are stuck to the main land the good guest harbour Fyrudden is recommended. We will not stay in the guest harbour of Harstena, as we will arrive late and the harbour is usually full at that time. We will anchor in the "North bay" Norrviken. The island is small enough to walk across.

Saturday July 26, Harstena/Fyrudden

Evening harbour: Harstena or alternative gest harbour Fyrudden
Distance: 0 nautical miles
Todays activity: This is a lay day to rest and to give people a chance to catch up if they have been left behind.

It is worth to take a walk in the surroundings. The Harstena village is a unique place with old typical houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. In the old days people here mainly made their living on seal hunting and fishing. The land was far to small to be of much use.

This is a jetty at the Moberg summer house south of Nynäshamn. It will probably be crowded at the jetty. An alternative is to sail on to Nynäshamn and then go to the party by car.
